I am lucky to count fellow Austin photographers Olivia and Tyler Schmitt as friends. They are talented, funny and are always happy to open up their home to my family and especially my daughter, who loves hanging out with their daughter. I was lucky enough to be able to photograph the moments immediately after the birth of their third child, Gentry. Most important, photo-wise, to them was the introduction of Gentry to her older brother and sister, who were just bursting to meet her.

I love births and the magical transformation from thing kicking in your belly to fully formed person. I myself found pregnancy and birth to be really empowering despite all the challenges. I feel very proud of these photos because no matter if it’s your first or your 5th, the moments right after a birth are special but so dreamlike. I feel honored to have been able to document those moments and I think it’s something that more people should do.
